The impression from being a yearly judge of this competition is that these students come out with amazing training for fashion design and teamwork before they get to college.
The level of craftmanship was very impressive.
Taught by instructor Mark Centino, The overall theme was constructing the corsette along with studyinG its history. Most were paired with ball gowns or mixed with the big theme of separates for wedding dresses today. The Basque waist was ever so present. Hand embroideries and appliques of lace, pearls and sparkle were well done. Each student was assigned a task in construction of the dress.
The process is as follows:
1) Master class at Kleinfeld Bridal with President Mara Urshel and Director of Merchandising, Dorothy Silver.
2) Sketches with theme are produced
3) Judges pick the top five
4) The class is broken down to the 5 teams with the winner of each sketch as the leader.
5) Master class with designer Madeline Gardner, fabrics donated by Allure Bridals.
6) Judges come back for a critic of the muslins.
Fashion show at Kleinfeld were the dresses are judged and the winner was announced with one team member being the model.
The winner, Anderson Ambrosio had such an impressive design. A huge bow/train in the back with a butterfly insert, A sophisticated corsette that hooks in the front. So exciting to see talent at this developing age. HE IS THE RECIPIENT OF THE BRIDAL COUNCIL’S SCHOLARSHIP.
As for the other students they too were incredible and hope all will continue to be a part of the future of the bridal industry.
