Emmys 2018 Top 6 Hair & Makeup Moments

Okay, so maybe everything wasn’t quite as wedding-worthy as that director dropping to his knees to propose to his sweetie in front of the whole wide world. But the 2018 Emmys brought plenty of bridal inspo all the same. From twinkly fairy dust eyeshadow to bejeweled topknots, here are the hair and makeup looks we liked best. 

PLUM DANDY

Admittedly, Keri Russell would dazzle without a stitch of makeup on – the woman is a raging beauty. But there was just something so smoldering about the matte plum smoky eye she was working, courtesy of ace makeup artist Tina Turnbow. My spies tell me it was the “Boticelli” shade from the Lime Crime Venus XL eyeshadow palette. How fitting.

IN FULL BLOOM

Inspired by Maddie Brewer’s “goddess-like” black gown, superstar hairstylist Mara Roszak worked a full-on bouquet into the star’s softly elaborate coif. After prepping Brewer’s locks with all manner of John Frieda concoctions (including Radiant Red Red Boosting Shampoo and Conditioner, natch), Roszak created a beautiful base for blooms to rest. Then she placed pins glued with white roses hither and yon, and spritzed with a bit of Frieda’s Luxurious Volume Forever hairspray. Swoon. 

 TEXTURED TOP KNOTS

A round of applause, please, for the hair whizzes who worked their magic on Yara Shahidi, Letitia Wright and Marsai Martin. All three of these gorgeous young women looked fantastic, each showcasing a slightly different spin on a textured top knot. While Shahidi went the au natural route, Wright opted for oodles of sparkly bling and Martin paired a braid with a waterfall of soft locks. 

 NUDE NEWS

While we loved all the sparkly eyeshadow beaming from the red carpet (well hello there Issa Rae and Thandie Newton!), the ubiquitous matte and semi-glossy nude lip looked fresh, too. Natalia Dyer knocked it out of the park on this front, but she had some seriously stiff competition from Zuri Hall.

 FEELING CENTERED

So much for the notion that center parts are hard to pull off; from Mandy Moore and Jessica Biel to Sarah Paulson and Joey King, locks carved straight through the middle were a real thing at this year’s Emmys. A real thing that looked very, very good. 

 SIDE SWOOPS

Glamour is Vanessa “The Crown” Kirby’s middle name, and she more than brought it Monday night, with a high and mighty ‘do that was a perfect foil for her sleek, bodycon Tom Ford frock. Also working this chic, side-swoop look to fairly devastating effect: Scarlett Johansson. But of course.
