10 Questions with Sahar Fotouhi of Yellow by Sahar

1) Tell us a bit about your design experience and background? 

I completed my undergraduate at the Parsons School of Design, where I had earned a full scholarship. As a former fine artist, YELLOW integrates my knowledge of art with fashion design, allowing me to create wearable pieces of art.

I have worked alongside various couture and high-end brands, expanding my expertise within the fashion industry. My time at Max Azria Atelier for Runway, allowed me to concentrate on my design skills, specifically within glamor and luxury.  

Before launching YELLOW, I was Creative Director at Frankie. I received immense recognition for my sophisticated and carefully tailored designs, catered to the modern women.  

2) What inspired you to launch a bridal collection? 

As I am newly engaged, I have begun the search for my perfect wedding gown, one that represents my individual character. Now more than ever, I noticed a void in the bridal industry and was determined to launch a bridal collection that would be unalike any before. 

YELLOW is unique because it embraces the limitlessness of design and creativity. The collection speaks to the vast personalities and strength of women.  

3) Where are you based? 

Yellow By Sahar is based in Los Angeles  

4) What is the vision of this brand-new collection? 

YELLOW By Sahar defies the typical wedding gown, the gowns are eccentric and bold. With a strong background in fine art, I am passionate about creating wearable pieces of art, incorporating both traditional and modern design 

elements. YELLOW introduces a daring vision into the bridal world, where the fearless desires of brides are met.  

5) Explain the concept behind the name Yellow? 

Yellow is a fearless color in the white world of bridal. 

6) What will be unique about this brand, what inspires your work? 

The inspiration behind YELLOW goes beyond just the designs. Each style is carefully thought out, being influenced by emotion, innovation, and modernized silhouettes from the 50’s.  

7) What kind of fabrics and treatment will you be working with? 

Fabrics are one of the most essential elements in creating a collection. YELLOW is designed with the most luxurious French and Italian fabrics and materials. The gowns are embellished in delicate French lace, duchess satin, faille, and tulle enhancing the delicate yet empowering side of the Yellow Bride. Each design is thought and created with the utmost craftmanship.  

8) Where will these pieces be produced? 

All my designs are manufactured in Italy.  

9) What is the price range? 

YELLOW by Sahar is a variation of designs ranging from you $7,000 and up. 

10) Where will you be debuting your new collection? 

I will be debuting my Spring & Summer 2024 Collection at Union Square Couture during NYBFW.
