OSCARS 2018: The 6 Most Memorable Jewelry Moments

AS REPORTED BY OUR FINE JEWELRY EXPERT, AMY ELLIOTT

Plunging necklines, dramatic bows, a flurry of metallic sequins—the red-carpet fashion at 90th Academy Awards did not disappoint, nor did the handful of jaw-dropping jewelry choices. Hues of delicate blush and crisp white mingled with vibrant pops of red and blue, all classic backdrops for the finest diamonds.

There were also aquamarines (Emily Blunt, Gal Gadot), sapphires (Jennifer Garner, Helen Mirren) and, a last-minute surprise, jumbo-sized rubellites (Camila Alves), much to the delight of those who live for color.

Below, the best jewelry moments of the night.

NICOLE KIDMAN in Harry Winston: Kidman killed it, inviting her admirers to “bow down” to her cobalt blue Armani Privé gown. Paired with dramatic Winston Cluster diamond chandelier earrings totaling 23.52 carats, the Tulip diamond bracelet totaling 12.86 carats and diamond rings totaling 10+ carats, all set in platinum, it was a regal look for one of Hollywood’s long-reigning red carpet queens.

GAL GADOT in Tiffany & Co.: The Wonder Woman star commanded attention in her slinky Givenchy gown, which featured a plunging neckline deserving of a major—make that MAJOR—jewel. The answer: Tiffany & Co.’s “Blue Ice” necklace featuring 61 carats of aquamarines joined by sparkling diamond baguettes and round diamond melee stones. “As a longtime fan of the brand, it means so much to get to wear this special custom piece,” the actress told Vogue.com.

ELISABETH MOSS in Harry Winston: Dressed in a blush-colored Dior Haute Couture gown scattered with the tiniest sequins, Moss accessorized with more than 50 carats of Harry Winston Diamonds, including the Winston Cluster chandelier earrings and ring, as well as the Secret Combination diamond bracelet, all set in platinum.

ALLISON WILLIAMS in Harry Winston: Like Moss, Williams also went for feminine glamour, in a blush-colored rhinestone and crystal-embroidered gown by Armani Privé. Her Winston jewels—the River diamond earrings (16.03 carats) and Sparkling Cluster diamond bracelet (10.15 carats, both set in platinum—brought in of a bit of Old Hollywood glamour. As the Get Out star’s stylist, Cristina Ehrlich, told ENews. "This being the first time that she's going to the Oscars…she really wanted to have that really beautiful, classic moment.”

ZENDAYA in Bvlgari: Effortlessly graceful and chic in her Grecian-inspired one-shouldered gown of draped chiffon by Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, presenter Zendaya went for classic platinum and diamond jewels from Bulgari’s heritage collection. The high-wattage earrings and arm party popped against the backdrop of her rich chocolate gown, and her hairstyle—a simple top-knot—allowed the jewelry plenty of room to shine.

EIZA GONZÁLEZ in Chopard: Like a ray of sunshine, the Baby Driver star turned heads in her clean-lined, formfitting canary yellow Ralph Lauren. Complemented by a trio of diamond pieces, including a pair of stiletto earrings finished with elongated emerald-cut stones totaling more than 10 carats, her look was the definition of fresh and modern.
